Graduate PCB Quality Engineer

Purpose and objectives of the role

The Quality Engineer will support our PCB within their Quality Department in carrying out activities to ensure product integrity in accordance with all required quality specifications, standards, goals, and objectives. Support the conformity of the quality management system.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Perform quality Inspections of customer-specific critical parts.
  • Handling rejected/ defect materials and returns as they arise. This includes:
    Segregating and quarantining non-conforming products where necessary and liaising with suppliers/ customers.
  • Raise/ address non-conformances as required.
  • Support in the reporting of quality metrics in relation to these issues.
  • Addressing customer complaints to identify the source of the problem, root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
  • Check that documents are at the correct revision level and completed correctly.
  • Documentation/ records are completed in line with Good Documentation Practice.
  • Ensuring tests pass prior to release and any applicable Change Notes / Concessions have been documented.
  • Support in driving continuous improvements throughout the organisation.
  • Report writing, including FAI and CAPA.
  • Support the Divisions' Apprenticeship programme by mentoring and educating the Divisions' Apprentices.
  • Maintain time and attendance to company standards
  • Observe the Health and Safety regulations laid down in company procedures and government legislation

Qualifications

  • Educated to Degree level in either engineering or Life Sciences (or equivalent) or relevant industry experience

Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of MRP/Q Pulse is advantageous, but training will be provided.
  • Awareness of IPC Standards and/or experience in PCB Inspection preferred but not essential.
  • Awareness of quality standards – BS EN 9100/9001 is preferred but not essential.
  • An enthusiastic self-starter with a good eye for detail and the ability to complete tasks/ objectives.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Internal auditing experience is advantageous but not essential.
  • Good Timekeeping and attendance, able to work a 2-shift rotation.

Experience

  • Previous experience in electronic manufacturing or manufacturing environment, preferred but not essential, as full training is given.

  • Early Shift 08:00-16:00 (30-minute lunch break)

PCB Process Engineer

Purpose and objectives of the role

Day to day assessment of product quality / product release / process control monitoring, enhancement and development. This is a senior position and an opportunity to join one of the Uk’s Leading PCB manufacturing companies. The successful candidate will be working within the Technical/Process Engineering team. Previous experience of printed circuit manufacture would be advantageous, however applications from any prospective candidates currently or previously having worked within a Process Control/ Engineering position would also be welcomed.

  • To ensure the effective operation of manufacturing processes that fall under your span of control.
  • To ensure that all process operating methods are clearly documented and maintained up to date.
  • To ensure that the manufacturing processes under your control are continually developed / improved to ensure that technological advancements can be realised.
  • To ensure that product being processed through the production process is manufactured to the relevant company / customer requirements.
  • To implement lean manufacturing ideas within areas assigned to you. Utilising methodologies such as 5s, JIT, bottleneck analysis, etc to continually improve.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • To support the manufacturing operation by reacting to and solving process issues in a timely manner when they arise.
  • To initiate corrective actions, training plans and process improvements where necessary to ensure that the processes under your control operate at their optimum level.
  • Ensure all processes, operation instructions and procedures are fully documented and that all company quality procedures & documentation is rigidly adhered to.
  • Ensure process controls and measures are identified, implemented and monitored for all processes within areas of your responsibility.
  • To review departmental process controls and identify improvements on an ongoing basis.
  • To identify manufacturing capacities for processes under your control. Liaise with Production Team to ensure these capacities are understood and utilised.
  • Understand & publish full capabilities for all processes and highlight improvement needs to the Technical Manager.
  • Liaise with the Pre-Production Engineering department to ensure that CAM & Planning practices reflect current manufacturing capabilities & methods.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities within all processes under your control and implement in conjunction with the Team-leader.
  • Co-ordinate with / support the Purchasing department in pursuit of the company’s strategic Purchasing objectives.
  • To continually monitor and reduce scrap levels within areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure all manufacturing processes and procedures comply with all current H & S legislation and company procedures (including COSHH).
  • To identify, monitor & control all costs within an area in line with company targets. Drive cost reduction activities.
  • To accept ownership (along with the Production) of the appearance of the Area under your control, with respect to maintaining a safe working environment through good housekeeping principles.
  • To maintain and improve Customer Perception of all areas and equipment within your area of jurisdiction.
  • Actively participate within / drive the Company Quality Improvement Program, ensuring any corrective actions required are closed down within the relevant time scales.
  • Ensure Quality of product is the basis of all decisions, whilst optimising product throughput and minimising departmental cost.

Maintenance Engineer (electrically bias)

Admin

Purpose and objectives of the role

Planned preventative maintenance, fault finding and repair of manufacturing machinery etc.
Key role in contributing to the improvement of Health and Safety within each division and Maintenance Department.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Day to day running of the maintenance department.
  • Manage the safe and efficient running of the manufacturing process.
  • Execute maintenance procedures and prioritise all work in line with programme needs and production availability.
  • Complete regular checks and testing on all plant to ensure they are operating within specification and recorded appropriately.
  • Root cause analysis and resolution of any manufacturing losses related to planned maintenance and supply of machinery components.
  • Ensuring critical spares are maintained and that repairs are conducted promptly and efficiently.
  • Liaise and support on site contractors as and when required.
  • Will work a two shift pattern consisting of an early and a back shift.
  • Support the Divisions' Apprenticeship programme by mentoring and educating the Divisions' Apprentices.
  • Maintain time and attendance to company standards
  • Observe the Health and Safety regulations laid down in company procedures and government legislation

SMT Technician

Purpose and objectives of the role

To set up, operate and maintain the Surface‑Mount Technology (SMT) production lines, ensuring efficient throughput, exceptional build quality and adhere to all safety and workmanship standards. The role supports new product introduction (NPI) and continuous improvement activities within the Assembly division.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Machine Setup & Operation – Load, operate and fine‑tune Mycronic pick‑and‑place machines to meet daily production schedules.
  • Inspection & Quality Assurance – Run Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) and X‑ray inspection equipment; analyse results and take corrective actions.
  • Line Maintenance – Perform routine preventive maintenance on SMT, AOI and X‑ray equipment; liaise with engineering for escalated issues.
  • Troubleshooting – Diagnose placement, solder paste and reflow issues, implement corrective measures and document actions taken.
  • Material Handling – Manage feeders, reels and component traceability using ERP/MES systems; ensure moisture‑sensitive devices follow IPC‑JEDEC standards.
  • Process Improvement – Participate in Lean/6σ and 5S initiatives to enhance throughput, reduce defects and optimise change‑over times.
  • Documentation – Maintain accurate production logs, test records and equipment maintenance histories.
  • Collaboration – Work closely with Production Engineering, Quality and NPI teams to support new assemblies, ECOs and first‑article builds.
  • Adhere to ESD controls, risk assessments and all site safety policies.
  • Support the Divisions' Apprenticeship programme by mentoring and educating the Divisions' Apprentices.

  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, BOMs and assembly drawings.

Experience

Purpose and Objectives of the role

Assisting with the assembly and sub-assembly of electrical components to a high standard using wiring and soldering following work from written instructions and diagrams.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Manual Soldering of through-hole components (Surface Mount desirable but not essential)
  • Hand assembly work on various products
  • Component polarity recognition
  • Maintain required standards in the assembly process whilst ensuring good housekeeping disciplines.
  • Ensure work is carried out in the relevant order or as directed by the supervisor.
  • Maintain and understand the quality and efficiency required to meet company standards.
  • General Housekeeping within the Division.
  • Observe Health and Safety regulations as laid down in company procedures and government legislation.
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks requested from time to time.
  • Support the Divisions' Apprenticeship programme by mentoring and educating the Divisions' Apprentices.
